Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence at Grady
Grady is accredited by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons as a Teaching Hospital Cancer Program. The Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence at Grady is also a member of the Georgia CORE Research Network, a statewide network of academic and community-based oncologists and researchers. The Avon Comprehensive Breast Center at Grady is accredited by the American College of Surgeons’ National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). The Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence (GCCE) at Grady Health System is staffed by oncologists and other specialists from Winship Cancer Institute at Emory, Morehouse School of Medicine, Georgia State University and Grady. Working together in a multi-disciplinary approach, the GCCE team includes: surgeons, oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, nurses, home health professionals, radiation therapists, mental health professionals, registered dieticians, rehabilitation therapists, social workers, pathologists, pharmacists, hospice representatives, chaplains, community education and outreach coordinators. The Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence was carefully designed with the patient in mind. The environment features: 22 exam rooms with natural lighting; private infusion areas with television and natural lighting; patient resource library with computer and internet access; healing garden and express elevator. The center offers coordinated support services to cancer patients to help enhance their quality of life. Support services include: palliative care to help manage pain and other distressing symptoms; nutrition services; radiation therapy support group; breast cancer preoperative support group; Atlanta Legal Aid Cancer Initiative program; American Cancer Society’s I Can Cope® and Look Good Feel Better® programs; therapy-centered art program; financial services; pastoral care program; clinical Trials and the Avon Foundation Breast Health Center.
