The Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition, Inc. is a collaboration of fifteen counties in Northwest Georgia whose vision is to build a model of comprehensive rural cancer control. Our mission is to develop programs of excellence in cancer-related education, communications, prevention, early detection and screening, treatment, and research in this region. We believe prevention is a key element to reducing cancer risk, but unfortunately, not everyone is aware of steps to take towards cancer prevention and screening. We aim to provide the entire community with cancer screening guidelines and risk-reducing education, as well as provide appropriate screenings and healthcare access to our underserved populations.

The Sydney Heersink Grant is an annual grant initiative funded by The Breasties. Sydney Heersink traveled to the very first Breasties' retreat all the way from Dublin, Ireland, ahead of her preventative mastectomy in January 2018. It's with heavy hearts that we share that Sydney passed away from stage 4 endometrial cancer in September of 2019. This Grant is in honor of Sydney’s life, who she was before cancer, the Sydney that was traveling the world and studying international law -- her beautiful, passionate, and impactful life. In celebration of the life of Sydney Heersink, we will award several $500 grants for the 2023 calendar year. Grant funds can be used to pay for groceries, medical bills, school expenses, etc. - and is up to the sole discretion of the grant recipient. These grants are eligible to individuals who are suffering from a cancer diagnosis or high-risk genetic disposition to cancer.
