Northside Hospital, in partnership with the Cancer Support Community Atlanta, recently was asked by the White House to host the first Atlanta Cancer Moonshot Summit, which coincided with Vice President Joe Biden’s national summit that took place in Washington, D.C., on June 29, 2016. More than 270 institutions across the country also held their local summits with the goal of making a decade worth of cancer advances in five years.
Special guests at the Atlanta summit included Dr. Lisa Richardson, Director of the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control at the CDC, and Dr. Al Soltan, president of Georgia Cancer Specialists. Panel discussions included local cancer experts, advocates, and survivors united by the goal of finding new progress toward a cancer cure and urging for the need to share more information.
“The key to finding a cancer cure is sharing information, and that’s already happening in Atlanta,” said Patti Owen, director of the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute and Georgia CORE Board of Directors Member. “For our cancer patients who become cancer survivors and live extraordinary lives, we want to take action and work together to defeat cancer.”
