Georgia’s Cancer License Plate Fund

Georgia’s Cancer License Plate Fund turns an everyday purchase into meaningful support for cancer care across the state. By choosing a specialty plate, you help fund breast cancer screening and education programs for Georgians in need, raise awareness wherever you drive, and honor those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Give back by purchasing a Georgia Breast Cancer License Plate.

Driving to fight ALL cancers

The program’s roots trace to 2002, when the Georgia Cancer Coalition and Kaiser Permanente worked with the Georgia General Assembly to create the Breast Cancer License Plate Program. (Breast cancer accounts for 3 out of 10 new cancers in Georgia women.)

Nearly 20 years later, Georgia CORE led a coalition to get legislative approval of a second plate to heighten awareness of all cancer threats. The “All Together Stop Cancer” plate was rolled out, and the “Fight Breast Cancer” plate was redesigned, both to increase sales.

Annual grant making

For each dollar collected from a first-time license plate purchase, 28 cents goes to the state license plate fund; for annual renewals, 40 cents of each dollar goes to the fund. Georgia CORE manages the fund and awards grants to partner organizations throughout the state.

  • With funds from the breast cancer plate, awards of up to $30,000 are granted for treatment services or education, prevention and screening services.
  • Funds generated through the “all cancers” license plate support grants to provide education and screenings for colorectal, lung, and prostate cancers. Two awards of up to $10,000 are made available for selected programs each year.

$22

of every annual renewal goes directly to the Cancer License Plate Fund.

Buying a Plate is Easy:

  • Visit your local tag office and ask for one of these plates by either its name or category code: The Breast Cancer plate is called “Breast Cancer Awareness” and has a category code of BCLT. The Stop Cancer plate is called “Fight Against Cancer,” and its category code is C-1.
  • In some counties, you can order the plate online when your annual tag renewal is due (but can't use the code).
  • The plate costs $80 the first time you buy it and $55 when you renew it.
  • At the tag office, they may have the plate in stock; or they’ll give you a temporary plate and mail you your new license plate very soon.
